4-H>4-H CloverKansas 4-H Youth Development is thriving.  It is sponsored by K-State Research and Extension and County/District Extension Councils in the Northwest Area.  4-H Youth Development exists in all 26 counties in the Northwest Area including six Extension Districts:  Phillips-Rooks, Post Rock (Jewell, Lincoln, Mitchell and Osborne), Sunflower (Sherman, Cheyenne and Wallace), Twin Creeks (Decatur, Norton and Sheridan),  Walnut Creek (Lane, Ness and Rush), and Golden Prairie (Gove, Logan and Trego).  This web site is designed and maintained to help you learn more about 4-H in the Northwest Area and to stay tuned of future 4-H events.  For questions, please call Deryl Waldren at 785-462-6281 or e-mail, dwaldren@ksu.edu.

Some 4-H events are organized in the Northwest Area by blocks.  When needed, the blocks are as follows:

Northwest Area 4-H Blocks:

Block 2:  Decatur, Norton, Sheridan, Graham, Gove and Trego
Block 3:  Phillips, Smith, Jewell, Rooks, Osborne, Mitchell and Lincoln

Northwest 4-H Youth & Leaders' Forum          

The Northwest Youth and Leaders' Forum (NWYLF) and Day Camp Training is set for Saturday, August 25, 2012, at the K-State Ag Research Center Auditorium in Hays from 11:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.  Registration will be due August 15, 2012.  NWYLF is open to any Kansas youth 12 and older, 4-H leaders, other community volunteers and Extension staff.  Participants may registration by by the Google registration system or by hard copy in 2012.  (See below for details). 

All participants must submit the registration form or register on-line, fee (cash or check to KSU) and a 2012 copy of your Kansas 4-H Participation Form by August 15, 2012,  in order to attend the 2012 NWYLF.  Mail to:  Deryl Waldren, NW Area Extension Office, P. Vibrant Video Training 1 & 2          

4-H Vibrant Video Training (Basic)
This second video training was held Feburary 8-10, 2011, to allow participants the time and technical support to strengthen the video and editing skills previously learned.  In addition, another basic training allowed more KSRE staff and volunteers to create effective video clips for the Kansas 4-H Program.  Information will be posted as it becomes available about the possibility of future trainings for K-State Research and Extension.

2012 Training.  Kansas 4-H will be offering a shortened, condensed video making training, March 13 - 14, in Hays. The fee for the training will be $50, travel and lodging will be on your own.

The simplified objectives are:
-Participants will learn about the tools and resources for making their own video productions, including: script writing, story boarding, video production, video post-production, uploading   the video, and troubleshooting.

-Participants will learn the principles of good video production, including: video composition with a diversity of subjects, good video composition, narration, varied screen shots,   eliminating distracting elements, avoiding tokenism, good quality sound levels, appropriate   music in selection and sound levels, and positive representation of 4-H.

-Participants will learn how to begin editing and critiquing their own videos for content, quality and effectiveness.

Great Northwest Escape          

The Great Northwest Escape is a one-day retreat for Northwest Area Extension staff and is pending for 2012.  The event has previously been held at the Cedar Bluff Reservior, south of WaKeeney, KS.  The committee of Northwest Area staff will be finaling details in the near future.  Details will be posted as they become available.
